10 Days in Sarawak

Last week we spent a good time of our remaining annual leaves in Sarawak. We decided to have a long stay since we cannot make it on last raya and plus, we had a family wedding!

First of all, the Sarawak government is very strict on controlling their border to control the Covid-19. When we first arrived at the airport, all passengers need to do the swab test regardless you are Sarawakian or not. Before our flight, I had a call with their spokesperson. For those who are not Sarawakian, you need to pay half the cost for the swab test which is around RM 150. Then we were provided with a white tag with QR code. We need to provide our exact location (automatically detected by GPS upon scanning) twice daily. After 3 days, once we received our result, we are free from quarantine.

Then we had birthday celebration for Ezhan and Bapak. We went to Spring Mall for the gifts and it was so different from the last time we went there few years ago.

A day before the solemnization, the bride and groom had this majlis berinai. Nowadays for some people, they don’t really care about this inai thing because of the color will stick on your fingers for days. But for me personally, it is a remarks of Malay wedding tradition and we don’t get many chance for the experience so the color is no big deal since it is the biggest day of our life. I had my inai too on my wedding.

The next day we got up early at 6.45 am as we need to be at the Pejabat Agama around 7.30 am. At first I thought there won’t be many couple getting married since we are in the Covid-19 pandemics but I was wrong. We need to take turns and luckily our turn was on the fifth. After all, the most important thing is to follow the SOP set by the government.

Wishes for the newlyweds

In Sarawak, usually the solemnization and wedding day are separated into 2 days. In the evening, we packed our things and went to the Penview Hotel in Kuching. The wedding in Sarawak will start on morning around 9 or 10 am and end at noon, unlike in semenanjung which will drag until 5 pm. Since the hotel is a bit far and to avoid the traffic, we stayed the night at the hotel.

Alhamdulillah, all went well and we welcomed the new addition to the family. On the last day, we had our favourite laksa Sarawak together before going to the airport. All meals was sponsored by the pengantin baru. (Thank you!)

We reached the airport around 12 pm to check in our luggage. This pengantin lama are bound to Penang to continue the norms while the pengantin baru are going to JB for the first honeymoon.
